Missy Elliott and friends showcase ‘out of this world’ performance
(KRON) – The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott, has graced the Oakland Arena stage in her first-ever headlining tour. The “Out of this World – The Missy Elliott Experience” included some of Elliott’s best collaborations – Ciara, Busta Rhymes and Timbaland.
The stage was filled with vibrant colors and elaborate sets to display the “out of this world” theme with images of different planets combined with all the eras of Elliott’s career.
The large crowd was the loudest for the Grammy-Award-winning song, “Get Ur Freak On.” Fans swarmed to the floor as Elliott circled the arena performing “Work It.”
In between costume changes, the DJ played numerous songs the pop star wrote and produced including, Aaliyah’s “If Your Girl Only Knew,” 702’s “Where My Girls At” and Keyshia Cole’s “Let it Go.”

Elliott’s dancers executed a variety of different forms of dance: tap, krump, ballet and break dancing.
It was evident no one had more fun at the “Out of the World” concert than Busta Rhymes. Even when badgering the staff about the correct lighting Rhymes asked for, he followed up with a sly chuckle. The Jamaican rapper solidified himself as more than a lyricist but a bonafide comedian. Rhymes stopped his duet with Mariah Carey, “I Know What You Want” due to the women of the audience not being loud enough, reminding the audience that the mid-tempo ballad was created for his female audience. Once the audience sang at a level he preferred, he playfully sang Carey’s high notes.
His set commenced with his single “Ante Up,” hyping the crowd the moment the beat dropped. After giving the front row a champagne shower to his “Pass the Courvoisier Part II,” Rhymes made Oakland a promise: “You will definitely see us again.”
Ciara kicked off the show with her first single “Goodies,” making fans rush to their seats. The Atlanta singer is known for her dancing ability and ensured the audience had a plethora of dance breakdowns in between songs. Despite Ciara being as strong of a dancer as she was almost two decades ago when her first single was released, her dancers shined and were integral in the performance. Many of the dancers had their own solos.
Ciara thanked Oakland for the city’s support when she first began her career.
Elliott closed out of this world tour with her collaborations with the guest headliners. Rhymes and Elliott performed “Touch It Remix.” The show closed out with Elliott and Ciara’s Grammy Award-winning dance record “Lose Control.”
The “Out of this World” tour continues at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Thursday.
