‘Modern Family’ Star Julie Bowen Reveals Feeling Distant From Teen Sons
Modern Family star Julie Bowen recently opened up about bonding and parenting her three teen sons. In an episode of TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, the actress spoke at length about her sons’ tastes in hairstyles and how she manages to keep in touch with them. She also expressed feeling distant from her children and how it made her feel.

Julie Bowen talks parenting and coping with teenage sons
On the September 12 episode of TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, Julie Bowen opened up about her bond with her three teenage sons. The Modern Family actress shares twins John and Gustave, 15, and son Oliver, 17, with ex-husband Scott Phillips. The actress has found a unique way to connect with her sons while she’s away filming for her new show Hysteria!
Speaking with the hosts, Bowen noted that the time difference has left her with limited options to connect. She said, “Luckily, they’ve all grown and different rates and at different times have all gone in that heavy sleep cycle. Right now, cause I’m working on the East Coast and they live in L.A. The only way I communicate with them is through Snapchat.”
Meanwhile, the actress also stressed that her boys don’t talk to her about girls. She jokingly continues with her parenting style, “I have a lot of purposefully scattered about the house books that are informational about sex, drugs, what to avoid, how to not get people pregnant, not get diseases.” Bowen further noted that she’s made a strict rule about her boys not using their phones in the car.
She then confessed to feeling distant from her sons. Bowen further expressed how she has been living in a desert now. The actress said, “It’s like I got dumped by three guys I was madly in love with. “Hey, I’m right in the kitchen,” and they never show up. It’s as desperate as I ever felt in high school when you had a crush on a boy.”
Meanwhile, all episodes of Peacock’s thriller series Hysteria! will be available on October 18.
