Mohanlal’s much-anticipated latest movie, Malaikottai Vaaliban, is gearing up for its OTT debut. Recent reports suggest that Malaikottai Vaaliban will premiere on the popular streaming platform Disney Plus Hotstar on February 23, 2024. The news of the film’s OTT release comes shy of four weeks after its initial theatrical release on January 25, 2024.

Director Lijo Jose Pellissery, known for his cinematic brilliance, had strategically warned movie enthusiasts about the limited time window for experiencing Malaikottai Vaaliban on the big screen. Employing the fear of missing out, Pellissery urged cinephiles not to forego the unique cinematic experience theaters offer before the movie becomes available on streaming platforms.
However, the film didn’t fare as well at the box office as it was expected, even though it marked Mohanlal’s action comeback. In addition, the film is releasing on OTT sooner than the customary four-week window. This follows the recent trend of Malayalam movies that deviated from the trend of maintaining a 42-day gap between theatrical and streaming releases.

This Malayalam film revolves around the legendary fighter Vaaliban. Lijo Jose Pellissery described the plot as, “We are telling a story. I wanted to use a very Indian terrain and the characters to be rooted in that background. But I have taken elements from around the globe. From Japanese folk culture, the Samurai culture in Japan, from Westerns and so on. But I also wanted to make sure that it had no touch of the Western influence.”
Moreover, apart from Mohanlal, Malaikottai Vaaliban boasts a stellar cast, including Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi, Danish Sait, Manikandan R. Achari, and Manoj Moses, among others.
