'Mom and Dad' trailer premiere offers some epic new Nicolas Cage rage (exclusive)
After the stress of the holiday season, there’s no better way to start 2018 than with a little Cage Rage. Debuting theatrically and on VOD services on Jan. 19, the new dark comedy Mom and Dad awards Nicolas Cage with one of the most gonzo roles in a career filled with kooky characters. Yahoo Entertainment has the exclusive premiere of the trailer for Mom and Dad, which first screened for Midnight Madness audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it met with lusty cheers by a crowd that included the movie’s enigmatic star. “As you may have noticed, the audience and I are one,” Cage told Yahoo Entertainment in Toronto. “I am them and they are me. I’m a midnight movie fan at heart.”
As written and directed by Brian Taylor, Mom and Dad is a pure dose of midnight movie insanity. Cage and Selma Blair play the titular authority figures in a world where parents have violently turned on their beloved offspring. Rather than protect their two children from the bloodshed, Brent (Cage) and Kendall (Blair) are all too eagerly joining in the kid-bashing fun. The trailer also contains a peek at Mom and Dad’s standout set piece, where Cage destroys a full-size pool table with a sledgehammer. “It’s very difficult to break one of those down,” Taylor informed us. “It was easy to write into the script, but by the time we were done shooting it, Nic was just a shell!”
Mom and Dad premieres in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD on Jan. 19.
