Mom Goes Viral For Olympic Gymnastics Tricks in Her Kitchen

We’ve all watched an Olympic performance and thought, “Oh, I can totally do that.” But most viewers of the games don’t actually put themselves to the test. Well, one mother, Breanne Allarie, decided to try out a few of the Olympic moves she saw on TV—and the results were pretty amazing.

The mother of two from Vancouver, British Columbia, was watching the Olympic gymnasts perform on her television when she had the same thought that everyone else has. But Allarie actually made an attempt. Allarie recorded her go at the gymnastics tricks, which took place right in her kitchen, and posted it online. What she didn’t expect was that it would go viral.

My husband and I just had been watching all the clips from the Olympics, and I always have been the type of person that if I see something, I’m like, ‘I could probably do that. I could try it myself,’” Allarie said in an interview with TODAY.com.

Allarie explained that she decided to put on her bathing suit, put her kids’ mat into the kitchen and just go for it. “I just started doing some tricks.”

Breanne Allarie’s Olympic gymnastics attempt is going viral

Of course, Allarie has a gymnastics past, so it wasn’t just a shot in the dark by attempting these tricks. But TikTok and Instagram were fascinated anyway. The video, which has been posted to both platforms, has been well-received by everyone on the internet.

On Instagram, Allarie’s tricks have received well over 36 million views, as of now, which is a pretty impressive number. TikTok has shown the video some love too, with 1.2 million views.

Among the moves that Allarie attempted was a Shushunova, which to the untrained eye is what looks something like a belly flop. The trick, which is actually a straddle jump that lands in a front lying support, was named after the gymnast, Yelena Shushunova, an Olympic gymnast from Russia.

Allarie also asks her husband in the video, “Do you think I could do a backflip?” He warned against the move, but Allarie thinks she definitely could have done it. The former gymnast explained, “It has been a very long time since I've done some of those moves. Probably not since I was 14. I really did want to try the backflip, but I think it is probably for the best I didn't.”

Prior to her viral video and becoming a mother, Allarie was competitive gymnast. “I was in intense gymnastics competitively until I was about 14 years old. Originally, I really wanted to go to the Olympics.”

But her gymnastic dreams went away after practicing for a big competition when she landed on her neck while attempting a tumbling pass. Allarie fractured her back, stating, “Honestly, I was so lucky that I could still walk.”

After her goal of being an Olympian gymnast was no longer feasible, Allarie became a professional dancer, working with her husband on cruise ships, as well as in Tokyo Disney. Now, as a mother of two, Allarie spends her time as a digital content creator.

Breanne Allarie responds to mean comments on her video

While most of the world was in awe of Allarie’s video, there are always a select few who make the unnecessary comments. Some viewers called the mom “brave” for wearing a swimsuit online, but she disagrees.

Allarie thinks it's about embracing who you are, whether or not people want to see it. “The world can either take it or leave it…midsize moms can do it, too ... maybe ... sort of.”
