Mom Reunion: Kristen Johnston Joins Chuck Lorre Netflix Comedy
Three years after the series finale of CBS’ Mom, Kristen Johnston is reuniting with executive producers Chuck Lorre and Susan McMartin on an as-yet-untitled Netflix sitcom.
The multi-cam, which has already secured a 16-episode order, is co-created by stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan, who will also star. In the comedy, “Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman,” according to the official logline. “Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.”

Johnston — a two-time Emmy winner for her work on NBC’s 3rd Rock From the Sun — will play Carol, Leanne’s sister and complete opposite. “She’s twice divorced with no kids, and if there’s a choice between going to church and going to a bar, she will always choose the latter,” per the character description. “Despite their differences, Carol is fiercely loyal to her sister and is her ride or die.”
The 3rd Rock vet joined Mom in Season 5, when she was cast as Bonnie’s former foster sister Tammy Diffendorf. She recurred throughout Season 6, and was elevated to series regular for its final two seasons.
Additional TV credits include HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones and TV Land’s The Exes.
