'Moonlight': Hollywood's New Favorite Movie?

The 2016 Governor’s Awards presented honorary Oscars to martial arts legend Jackie Chan, editor Anne V. Coates, casting director Lynn Stalmaster, and documentarian Frederick Wiseman. As in years past, the star-studded affair also provided a good preview of those expected to walk red carpets and make acceptance speeches over the next few months as awards season kicks into high gear.

We took the opportunity to find out which movie Hollywood’s contenders are most excited about this year, and one clear favorite emerged: Barry Jenkins’s festival darling, the coming-of-age drama Moonlight.

La La Land director Damien Chazelle, Bleed for This star Aaron Eckhart, and Florence Foster Jenkins actor Simon Helberg all mentioned the film (watch above), which also got a push from one of its cast members, Janelle Monae (who also stumped for her other 2016 drama, Hidden Figures).

“I keep hearing about Moonlight,” said Hidden Figures producer Pharell Williams. He must’ve been listening to our interviews.
