After more than 50 years on CBS, the Grammys are moving to a new home

The Grammys are on the move … in a couple of years. It was announced on October 30, 2024, that the Recording Academy has struck a new deal to bring the awards to Disney platforms for 10 years starting in 2027. They will be simulcast across ABC, Hulu, and Disney+, in addition to other Grammy-branded music specials and programs during the year. This means that in 2027 ABC will boast three of the year’s top entertainment programs: the Grammys, the Oscars, and the Super Bowl.

Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden said in a statement, “As The Walt Disney Company combines forces with The Recording Academy to open this exciting new chapter in the history of ‘The Grammys,’ we do so with pride and gratitude. Live events have never been more important to our culture and industry, and we just acquired one of the crown jewels, adding to our portfolio of world-class programming across all genres.”

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. added, “We are completely thrilled to be bringing ‘The Grammys’ and other new music programming to the Disney ecosystem. This comes after decades of the Grammys on CBS. The awards started on NBC for their first 12 years. Then ABC took the reins in 1971 and 1972. But in 1973 the ceremony went to CBS and never looked back, until now. The 2026 Grammys will mark 53 years on the network before they’re poached by the Mouse House. Time will tell if this will affect anything else about the Grammys timeline and procedures, but we’ve got more than two years before this change takes affect. In the meantime, the 2025 Grammys will proceed as scheduled, with nominations set to be announced November 8 and winners to be presented on February 2, 2025.
