Morgan Wallen Gets Trolled at ACM Awards Following Legal Trouble

Morgan Wallen might not have been in attendance for the 2024 ACM Awards, but the show made a point to shout out the country star by throwing just a little bit of friendly shade his way.

Just a little over a month after the country crooner was arrested in Nashville for allegedly throwing a chair from a rooftop bar, he became the butt of just a few jokes at this year's ACMs presentation, which took place at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, on Thursday, May 16.

While Ashley McBryde and Schitt's Creek alum Noah Reid took the stage to announce the winner for Single of the Year, they decided to play a little song to introduce the nominees—and they couldn't pass up the opportunity to poke fun at Wallen, who was nominated in the category for his hit song "Last Night."

McBryde and Reid sang a remixed version of all the nominees' songs, switching up the lyrics for comic effect. While singing to the tune of Luke Combs' cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car," McBryde said that she'd "heard good things about Eric's place," seemingly referencing Eric Church's bar in Nashville, where Wallen's alleged chair-throwing incident occurred.

Reid then sang a little rendition of Wallen's track, singing, "Last night after some alcohol, the chair right over there really started to piss me off. They told me that I threw it at somebody I never met, and my publicist keeps telling me this ain't over yet."

The crowd roared with cheers and laughter, while McBryde added, "You should smile in the mugshot," referring to Wallen's now-famous mugshot, in which he was notably smiling from ear to ear.

The hilarious moment comes not long after Wallen's incident, for which he was charged with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He later released a statement, saying, "I'm not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility."

Surprisingly, the incident brought a bunch of customers to the bar wanting to see the chair Wallen threw, with Chief's even putting up a plaque that said, "Don't Even Think About It, You Are Not Morgan Wallen."

The singer was this year's ACM Awards' most-nominated artist, with six total nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Artist-Songwriter of the Year, Album of the Year, Single of the Year, and Music Event of the Year.

The 31-year-old is currently performing his One Night At A Time tour around the world, with dates scheduled throughout the rest of 2024, and the court hearing for his April arrest is set to happen in August after it was delayed at the start of May.
