'Morning Joe' asks Howard Schultz how much a box of Cheerios costs and he doesn't know
Billionaire and former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz was on Morning Joe to discuss his potential 2020 presidential bid as an independent, and he explained what he thinks qualifies him to be president.
“I will be a leader of the country, of all American people, that people will trust and admire because I will understand,” Schultz said. “I have walked in their shoes. I’m on both sides of the equation. I’m somebody who was successful, I’m somebody that came from the projects, and I understand the American people.”
Then host Mika Brzezinski asked Schultz if he knows how much an 18-ounce box of Cheerios costs.
Schultz was stumped and admitted he didn’t know, finally adding: “I don’t eat Cheerios, I’m sorry.”
And as the conversation on Morning Joe turned to the cost of cereal, the conversation on Twitter turned to the game show The Price Is Right.
He could’ve just “Price is Righted” the answer? @morningmika: “How much does an 18 oz box of Cheerios cost?”
Schultz: “One Dollar!” https://t.co/466eihJRGo

I’d love it if Drew Carey popped on set with his thin little microphone with a loud “Actual retail price of a box of Cheerios…. $3.69! Howard Schultz, come on down!”

Forget debating….every candidate for prez should be required to be a contestant on The Price is Right. https://t.co/x70vrOmpXt

Schultz didn’t know the price of Cheerios, so he only got 3 Plinko chips https://t.co/Cs1hjCCby1

People also went after things like Schultz’s billionaire status, the taste of Cheerios and the quality of Brzezinski’s question.
Morning Joe asking Howard Schultz a “gotcha” question about the price of a box of Cheerios?
Everyone knows billionaires eat two poached bald eagle eggs for breakfast. 🍳 🦅

I could easily sell a box of Cheerios to Howard Schultz for $1,000. https://t.co/6DGYp6rMwf

In Howard Schultz’s defense, no one with taste buds eats cheerios or knows how much a box costs. Honey Bunches of Oats on the other hand… $6.79.

Too bad Mika didn’t ask what qualifications Mr. Schultz has in foreign affairs rather than what the cost of Cheerios is. #nomorebusinessmanpresidents

I’m not a billionaire and I’m not sure what Cheerios cost. Mostly because I don’t buy breakfast cereal. What a dumb question.https://t.co/q5RBkstCRv

Brzezinski did finally reveal that “four bucks” is the cost of an 18-ounce box of Cheerios.
“Wow,” host Joe Scarborough said. “Good thing I only eat Count Chocula.”
