'Mother!' exclusive scene: Watch Michelle Pfeiffer taunt Jennifer Lawrence in year's most divisive film
Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! remains one of the more divisive — and, for some, disappointing — movies of 2017, and it has the mixed critical response and low Cinemascore to prove it. But there’s one thing everyone can agree on: It’s good to see Michelle Pfeiffer back on the big screen. Mother! was one of four projects that the Batman Returns star appeared in this year, and while her screen time in Aronofsky’s dreamlike dark comedy is limited, she makes every moment count. For evidence, watch this exclusive six-minute clip, which places Pfeiffer front and center, that Yahoo Entertainment is premiering today in advance of the film’s Dec. 19 Blu-ray release.
Coming roughly 30 minutes into the movie, this sequence finds Pfeiffer’s visiting houseguest playfully taunting her host, Jennifer Lawrence, while their respective husbands — Ed Harris and Javier Bardem — are out on a hike. After trying to infiltrate Bardem’s inner sanctum, where he’s toiling away on a major work, Pfeiffer insinuates that all is not well with the seemingly picture-perfect couple, paying particular attention to the lack of a child running around their rustic country home. And she knows something about being a mother: In the movie’s highly allegorical framework, Pfeiffer is playing a version of the very first mom, Eve. Yes, as in Adam and Eve. That’s one reason you should see this movie as soon as you’re Abel.
Mother! is available today on digital and will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra on Dec. 19.
