'MST3K' Update: Dan Harmon to Write for Reboot
Listen up, everyone! We’ve got an incoming transmission from the Satellite of Love. The wildly successful Kickstarter campaign to bring Mystery Science Theater 3000 back to the airwaves is entering its final hours, with nearly $4.3 million (and climbing) already in the bank. And if you needed extra incentive to kick in a few dollars to the Kickstarter fund, MST3K mastermind Joel Hodgson has revealed fresh details about some of the folks who will be involved with the show’s relaunch. We already knew that Patton Oswalt, Felicia Day and Jonah Ray will be among the new faces of the cast. But there’s going to be a lot of star power in the writer’s room as well: Hodgson has announced via Kickstarter that Community’s Dan Harmon will be a guest writer, along with Ready Player One author Ernie Cline, Simpsons scribe Dana Gould and the guy who co-wrote all those Frozen songs your kids won’t stop belting, Robert Lopez.
But wait, there’s more! To push the campaign to its ultimate goal of $5.5 million, which would allow for the production of a full 12-episode season, Hodgson unveiled a few more special guest collaborators. For example, Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward will be creating special animations for the series, as well Steven Universe mastermind, Rebecca Sugar. Meanwhile, MythBuster Adam Savage will consult on the special effects, and MST3K will get literary with a planned coffee table book. What are you waiting for people? Let’s get this satellite up and running already.
