‘Music by John Williams’: Documentary about the legendary composer coming to Disney+

Oscar winner John Williams is the subject of a new documentary coming to Disney Plus. “Music by John Williams” from Lucasfilm Ltd, Amblin Documentaries, and Imagine Documentaries, which offers a fascinating and insightful look at the prolific life and career of the legendary composer, will hit the streamer and have a limited theatrical release in New York, Los Angeles, and London on November 1. The documentary will also open the 38^th edition of AFI Fest on October 23. Watch the trailer below.

From his early days as a jazz pianist to his 54 Oscar nominations and five wins, the documentary takes an in-depth look at Williams’ countless contributions to film, including many iconic franchises, as well as his music for the concert stage and his impact on popular culture. The film features interviews with artists and filmmakers whose lives have been touched by his timeless music. Directed by award-winning filmmaker and best-selling author Laurent Bouzereau, the documentary is produced by Steven Spielberg, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Sara Bernstein, Justin Wilkes, Meredith Kaulfers, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Laurent Bouzereau, with Markus Keith and Michael Rosenberg serving as executive producers.

The documentary features interviews with Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Kate Capshaw, Gustavo Dudamel, J.J. Abrams, Chris Martin, Ron Howard, Chris Columbus, George Lucas, Itzhak Perlman, Lawrence Kasdan, Yo-Yo Ma, Ke Huy Quan, James Mangold, Alan Silvestri, David Newman, Thomas Newman, Seth MacFarlane, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and Branford Marsalis, whose lives have been touched by Williams’ timeless music.

Williams earned his first Oscar nomination in 1968 for scoring “Valley of the Dolls.” His first win came in 1972 for “Fiddler on the Roof,” and he won four more times for “Jaws” (1976), “Star Wars: Episode IV” (1978), “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial” (1983) and “Schindler’s List” (1994). His latest of 54 total bids came just last year for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”
