Music Mondays returns July 1 in Asbury Park, and all shows are free

Who says they don't like Mondays?

The 2024 Music Mondays at Springwood Park series begins Monday, July 1, with the Men of Soul and openers TheyLuvK4N. On their social media pages, New York City-based The Men of Soul are billed as the “top soul and R&B tribute band on the East Coast.”

Upcoming shows include Alexander Simone and the Whodat? Live Crew and Friends on Monday, July 8, and Ms. G and Da Guyz and Leon Trent's Waterfront Duo on Monday, July 15.

The August schedule, including the season-closing show by the Sensational Soul Cruisers, will be announced at a later date. All shows are free.

Simone, the grandson of music icon Nina Simone, is a big hit in city clubs and venues with his Whodat? Live Crew. City legend Trent was a member of the city group the Broadways in the '60s, who recorded the singles “You Just Don't Know” and “Goin' Goin' Gone” for MGM Records.

The Music Mondays at Springwood Park series, presented by the Asbury Park Music Foundation, “celebrates the diversity of the city by bringing music from various genres together to showcase the very best Asbury has to offer,” according to the foundation.

The shows run from 6 to 8 p.m. Parking is free around the park, located at the corner of Springwood and Atkins avenues. Sponsors include the City of Asbury Park, New Jersey Natural Gas, Donna and Ron Troppoli, Rent Jersey Shore, Interfaith Neighbors, TDK, the Mullen Family Foundation and the Jules L. Plangere Family Foundation.
