We asked and the universe delivered — watching Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston at the SAG Awards on Sunday night officially warmed our cynical hearts and filled us with hope for things like second chances and new beginnings. Are these two a couple again? Well, no but we’ll never give up hope on reconciliation, particularly in light of their “friendly” rapport at last night’s SAGs.

We can probably all agree that the world is an all too often depressing place these days, and there’s surely no harm in a little light-hearted ‘shipping. And the former husband and wife’s behavior toward each other at the 2020 SAG Awards sure gave ‘shippers a lot to ‘ship. Let’s take, for instance, how they each responded to the other’s acceptance speech.

When Pitt won for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, he made a joke about his sex life. “Let’s be honest, it was a difficult part. The guy who gets high, takes his shirt off, and doesn’t get on with his wife,” quipped Pitt. “It’s a big stretch. Big.” Naturally, the camera panned to Aniston, who smiled (dare we say lovingly?) and clapped.

Then, when Aniston won for best actress in a drama series for The Morning Show, Pitt could be seen backstage watching a TV intently as she gave her speech. If we were crafting a Twitter caption for this video, it would contain no fewer than three heart-eye emojis.

When ET Canada caught up with Aniston after her win, they informed her, “You had Brad Pitt watching that monitor,” to which she interjected, “Aw!” She reiterated to ExtraTV that his response to her speech was “sweet.”

But what really seemed to melt Twitter into a puddle of nostalgic ‘shipping sentiment was a series of photos showing Pitt and Aniston running into each other backstage. The looks on their faces! The way she put her hand on his chest! Him clutching her wrist! It was almost too much for Twitter’s tender heart to take.

Of course, here’s the thing: Pitt and Aniston have consistently denied that anything romantic is going on between the two. So, we respect whatever personal choices they make regarding their love lives. And, if we’re really being honest, the real award they deserve is one for putting up with constant speculation about their relationship for the last 15 years — and, consider this our preemptive apology, for the next 15.
