Netflix’s newest series order gets a B… B-movies, that is.
The streaming service is reviving the Emmy-nominated Mystery Science Theater 3000 — with Felicia Day (Supernatural), Patton Oswalt (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Nerdist podcast co-host Jonah Ray joining veteran cast members Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot), Mary Jo Pehl (as Pearl Forrester) and Kevin Murphy (Professor Bobo) — it announced on Saturday night.

MST3K, in which series creator Joel Hodgson, and later Michael J. Nelson, played a man who was held captive and forced to watch cheesy films as part of an experiment by mad scientists, had its original run from 1988-99 on Comedy Central and Syfy, among other networks. The man and his robot companions offered a running/mocking commentary on the action, while set in silhouette against the screen.
Ray will inherit the test subject role in the Netflix version.
Hodgson raised $5.7 million in a Kickstarter campaign last fall to get the revival underway.
Elliott Kalan (The Daily Show) will serve as head writer, with Community creator Dan Harmon and star Joel McHale among the writing staff.
