Natalie Portman’s Embellished Gown Brings a Medieval Edge to The Red Carpet

Natalie Portman brought an elegant edge to the red carpet at the 50th annual Deauville American Film Festival.
In her usual fashion, the May December actor slipped into Dior, although her ensemble didn’t include the label’s signature feminine florals. Instead, Portman wore a chainmail-reminiscent gown from Dior’s 2025 Cruise collection (look 70, to be exact). Complete with bouffant sleeves and metallic beaded details, the look truly embodied the Scotland castle from where it debuted back in June.
Serving as Portman’s red carpet armor, the gown featured a square neckline, and below, a breastplate of sorts. Her chest was covered by a transparent black mesh panel embroidered with whimsical beaded details, including smokey swirls and stemmed flowers. The metallic accents coordinated nicely with a black leather belt with silver hardware, which the Academy Award winner used to cinch her look together.
Embellished with chainmail-inspired beading, the fluid skirt of the dress had no lining, exposing the actor’s legs. Underneath the gown, she wore a pair of high-waisted black shorts to complement the translucent garment. And as the shimmering skirt hit the floor of the red carpet, Portman added a pair of teetering black platform heels to balance out the proportions.
With plenty of glistening trimmings on the dress itself, the actor accessorized sparingly. Besides the belt around her waist, she wore a black crystal choker adorned with dangling pearl details. The delicate jewelry blended perfectly with her medieval ensemble, fit for a Hollywood queen.
After Portman graced the red carpet, her illustrious acting career was honored with the Deauville 2024 Talent Award. Later, a beach locker room on the Promenade de Planches was also dedicated to her, and she attended the ceremony in another Dior look. This time, she wore a smart navy suit that included the brand’s 30 Montaigne Bar Jacket and a flared miniskirt. A pair of black J’Adior slingback pumps rounded out her look.
