Natalie Portman Just Revealed Her Refreshing Take on Method Acting & We Couldn’t Agree More
Whether you’re an actor or not, you might be familiar with the concept of “method acting.” If not, let us explain. Method acting, which was originally developed by Lee Strasberg, refers to when an actor, in an attempt to play their role even further, embodies their character even when the cameras aren’t rolling. As an example, back when Heath Ledger was filming The Dark Knight, the late actor reportedly refused to speak to anyone who didn’t address him as the Joker. Talk about commitment, right?
But how does method acting work when the actor has other life commitments like being a mom? According to Natalie Portman in a recent interview, it doesn’t.

“I’ve gotten very into roles, but I think it’s honestly a luxury that women can’t afford,” the May December star said in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Portman continued, referring to her Oscar-nominated role as Jackie Kennedy in 2017’s Jackie. “I don’t think that children or partners would be very understanding of, you know, me making everyone call me ‘Jackie Kennedy’ all the time,” Portman said.
As a reminder, the actress shares kids Aleph, 12, and Amalia, 6, with her reported ex Benjamin Millepied. Portman and Millepied had been married since 2012 but were recently involved in a series of split and cheating rumors last year surrounding Millepied’s alleged affair with a much younger woman named Camille Etienne.
Also in the interview, the outlet seemingly confirmed their split. “Portman lives in Paris with her two children,” the outlet stated with no mention of a partner, per Page Six.
Looks like Portman is single, but won’t be diving into method acting for a role anytime soon. Fair enough!
