Natalie Portman’s Red Carpet Style Through the Years: From ‘90s Debut to Dior Runway Looks and More
Natalie Portman boasts a decades-long career that began when she was a child actor in the ’90s. Over the course of more than 20 years, the Oscar-winner has appeared on several red carpets, from premieres to awards shows and more high-profile Hollywood events. As such, her red carpet style has completely evolved in that time.
Much of Portman’s style changed when she became the face of the Miss Dior campaign in 2011. Since that time, the actress has embraced her relationship with the French multinational luxury fashion house, wearing several of their designs.

2024
For the New York premiere of her limited Apple TV+ series “Lady in the Lake” on July 11, Portman fashioned a look from Dior’s 2025 cruise collection. Portman’s outfit featured an embroidered bustier dress, which included a black belt and velvet shorts. The bustier design of Portman’s strapless look also included a peekaboo bra.
Dior’s structural ensemble featured delicate beading and a contemporary design, with a black belt cinching the waist of Portman’s frame. While the piece seemed mostly modern, the inspiration for Dior’s 2025 cruise collection came from Clare Hunter, the textile expert and author of “Embroidering Her Truth: Mary Queen of Scots and the Language of Power.”
2019
For the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival premiere of her film “Lucy in the Sky,” Portman fashioned a one-shoulder, sleeveless Dior dress with a see-through bodice and lace detailing. The floor-length gown also featured a flowing black skirt.
2013
At the 2013 London premiere of the film “Thor: The Dark World,” Portman opted for yet another Dior design. She wore a black cashmere long-sleeve top and with a silver metallic jacquard ball skirt courtesy of the designer.
2009
Portman’s approach to the 2009 Vanity Fair Oscar party was to think pink. She wore this strapless Rodarte dress with a sweetheart neckline, tulle fabric draped skirt and gemstones on the bodice of the dress in a similar shade of pink.
2005
Portman took inspiration from Grecian-style designs in this Lanvin look for the 2005 Oscars. The sleeveless gown featured a shimmering, muted olive green hue with a plunging V-neckline. The gown also featured a cinched waist with a belted element and a similar metallic piece at Portman’s hips.
1999
One of Portman’s most high-profile red carpet events came in May 1999 when she attended the New York City premiere of “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.” Portman was just a teenager at the time, and kept her look youthful and simple, wearing a midi dress with beaded detailing down the center of the dress and on the thin straps.
