Nationally touring country-rock violinist performing in Midland

MIDLAND - Professional country-rock violinist John Parrendo performs in the “Fiddle in the Box” concert Thursday at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center.

Showtime is 7 p.m. in the Midland center's BlackBox Theater.

The classically trained Parrendo toured with nationally known country acts Blackhawk (2002-04) & Chris Cagle (2006-09), and now works with regional bands in the tri-state area. He often performs as a guest musician with Beaver County country-rock stalwarts Eldorado.

Parrendo fondly recalls childhood memories of the former Christ the King Church in Ambridge, and the borough's former Nationality Days when "the streets were packed with people of all ages with their families and the air was filled with the smell of great food and the sounds of great ethnic music. "I later learned that my grandparents lived in Beaver County and my father’s father worked for the railroad near Ambridge before they relocated to the North Side," he said. "Years later, I worked with great musicians who were born and raised in Beaver County, which still seems to be a cradle of great musical talent. Whether it was my former band, Unwound, and in the other bands I worked with throughout the years to present day. Beaver County will always remain to be a special place for me and my family with the great memories and connections there."

Lincoln Park's 2022-2023 "In The Box Series" will include two additional shows:? Jazz In The Box, Jan. 27, with MCG Jazz's five-time Grammy Award winner, Marty Ashby exhibiting a night of Pittsburgh history conveyed through the music of Pittsburgh legends and photos by preeminent Pittsburgh photographer Teenie Harris.? Salsamba In The Box, May 26, with Salsamba Latin fusing traditional jazz with the rhythms of Cuba, Brazil and theCaribbean.
