NCIS: Origins: Mark Harmon to Make On-Screen Appearance in Premiere Episode

NCIS: Origins viewers will hear and see Mark Harmon when the CBS spinoff premieres.

During a panel discussion with reporters on Thursday, NCIS: Origins co-showrunner David J. North confirmed that Harmon — the longtime portrayer of NCIS‘ Leroy Jethro Gibbs — will briefly appear on screen during Origins‘ pilot episode.

“That was a discussion between Mark, myself and [co-showrunner] Gina Monreal,” North said of the cameo, for which new footage of Harmon has been shot. “I hope the audience will be excited to see him after so many years.” (Harmon exited NCIS a few episodes into Season 19; its 22nd season premieres in October.)

North didn’t elaborate on the context in which Harmon will show up, but he did leave open the possibility for Harmon to appear in future episodes of the Young Gibbs-centric prequel.

“We are focusing on him telling the story of 1991,” North explained. “As far as Mark appearing again, we are open to anything.”

As previously reported, Harmon will serve as narrator (and, behind the scenes, as an executive producer) on NCIS: Origins, which centers on a young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) as he starts his career as a newly minted Special Agent at the NIS Camp Pendleton office. Kyle Schmid (SIX, Big Sky) will co-star as a young Mike Franks (played by Muse Watson in the mothership); other cast members include Mariel Molino (Promised Land) as Special Agent Lala Dominguez; Tyler Abercrumbie (The Chi) as Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Hayes; Diany Rodriguez (The Blacklist) as Special Agent Vera Strickland; and Caleb Foote (Made for Love) as Special Agent Benjamin “Randy” Randolf. NCIS: Origins kicks off with a two-episode premiere on Monday, Oct. 14, at 9/8c, before making its regular time slot premiere on Monday, Oct. 21, at 10 pm.
