According to a press release, the two awards acknowledge NE-YO's success as a hitmaker and philanthropist who has contributed to Las Vegas over the years, including working with the local Boys & Girls Club.

"Thank you, thank you to– I love you, mayor. Thank you to the City of Las Vegas," the singer said to the Wednesday crowd after reading his proclamation onstage, per an X (formerly Twitter) video posted by the City of Las Vegas. "Thank you all for being here for my very first residency."

NE-YO will treat fans in Sin City to his iconic, multi-platinum catalog as he finishes out his mini-residency on Aug. 9 and 10. Back in April, the singer got a chance to celebrate his discography during his Tiny Desk Concert appearance at NPR — where he performed hits like "So Sick," "Because of You" and "Miss Independent," plus those he's penned for others like Beyoncé’s "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna’s "Take a Bow."

He also performed a new single titled "2 Million Secrets," which he officially released on June 14, that addressed a toxic relationship and infidelities. "This song is basically about owning your s---. That’s the best way I can put it," NE-YO told the Tiny Desk crowd. "Nobody is above mistakes, nobody is above redemption, and you do better and you keep pushing."

The Libra Scale artist's latest song also marks a pivotal milestone, as it's his first track as a fully independent artist for the first time in his career.

"It’s a blessing to be in this position to control my own destiny as an independent artist,” NE-YO said in a statement previously shared with PEOPLE. “My artistry means everything to me, and I’m excited to embrace this new beginning."
