Nelly settles with woman who accused him of raping her on his tour bus
Nelly has agreed to a settlement with Monique Greene, the woman who accused the rapper of raping her on his tour bus in an Auburn, Wash., parking lot last fall, the Seattle Times reports.
The “Hot in Herre” performer, whose real name is Cornell Haynes Jr., was arrested on Oct. 7, 2017, the day after the alleged incident occurred. Greene, a student at the University of Washington, said he sexually assaulted her following a show at the Seattle nightclub where she worked. He maintains that the encounter was consensual.
When prosecutors declined to press charges, Greene filed a lawsuit in December, adding that his lawyer’s insistence that she made up the story amounted to defamation. Nelly countersued for defamation.
As a result of the settlement, both suits have been dropped, with each party reportedly agreeing to cover their own legal costs. At dispute, however, is a statement issued by Nelly’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, regarding the settlement’s financial terms.
“Both parties have mutually agreed to drop the lawsuit,” Rosenblum told People and other media outlets. “No settlement or money changed hands.”
Greene’s lawyer, Karen Koehler, told the Times that Rosenblum’s remark was not true and was damaging to her client.
“My client is not making any comment,” Koehler said. “She’s not able to defend herself, but if someone is going to lie, I think that is inappropriate.”
She added that Greene is standing by her account “100 percent.”
