Netflix drops first look at Prince Harry’s polo docu-series as release date is revealed
Prince Harry’s Netflix series offering fans a glimpse into the world of polo is coming!
The Duke of Sussex’s latest venture — a documentary on the equestrian sport he had been playing since he was a child — will be called “POLO” and is set for a December release.
“POLO is a new documentary series that follows elite global players and offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of the sport,” Netflix said in a statement on X. “From Archewell Productions and Boardwalk Pictures. Premiering this December.”
The statement was accompanied by four photos from the docu-series, which showed a picture of three polo players on their horses, as well as an action shot of two athletes.
It is expected that Harry — who has been an avid polo player for decades — will appear in the new project.
After it emerged that the father of two was working on the project in April, a statement said that the series will “provide viewers unprecedented access to the world of professional polo.”
Footage was shot primarily at the US Open Polo Championship in Florida, which ran from March 27 to April 14.
“Known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene, the series will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level,” the statement added.
It comes just months after Meghan Markle had wrapped filming for her upcoming Netflix show, which is reportedly set to be centered around cooking and wellness.
The pair’s two new nonfiction projects with the streaming giant fall under the deal they signed with Netflix under their Archewell Productions company.
The “Suits” alum’s show was filmed at a residential property just a few miles from her and Harry’s posh $14 million Montecito, Calif., home.
It will be produced by Sony Pictures Television, as well as Markle herself, and will likely collaborate with Markle’s new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
The brand recently hit a snag after its trademark application was refused.
The Duchess of Sussex’s team has had trouble getting her new brand over the line as the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) warned that businesses cannot trademark geographical locations.
She is now reportedly considering changing the brand’s name.
In February, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria revealed what types of projects Harry and Markle are working on under their estimated $100 million deal with the platform.
“They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon [Riegg, the head of unscripted shows at Netflix],” Bajaria said.
“And they actually have like a bunch of development. They have a movie in development; a [scripted] series that they’re working on. So all very early development, with a movie, a TV show and a couple of unscripted shows. But yeah, the movie’s great.”
