Netflix’s Latest #1 Show Is a Rousing, Action-Packed Drama That Will Give You All the Nostalgia

Netflix’s popular series, Cobra Kai, just kicked its way to the number one spot on the streamer service’s top ten shows list.

Serving as a continuation of the beloved Karate Kid franchise, this series takes place 34 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. In an effort to turn his life around, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) decides to reopen the legendary Cobra Kai dojo, reigniting his longtime feud with his now successful opponent, Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio).

It’s only been a few days since part one of Cobra Kai season six (which also happens to be the final season of the series) debuted on Netflix. And yet, the spinoff series has managed to climb to number one of the list, bumping Simone Biles’s new docuseries to number two.

My colleague Nakeisha Campbell (PureWow’s Associate Editor of News and Entertainment) raved about the new season in her review. She wrote,Cobra Kai season six is off to a solid start. It maintains its usual charm by balancing nostalgia with humor and fresh storylines. It raises the stakes to keep fans invested, and martial arts fans are in for a real treat with the fight sequences. With new twists and plenty of drama, the series already sets itself up for a wild finale.”

Ahead of the season six premiere, Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg sat down with ComicBook and shared what they loved most about making this season, which will close out the franchise. They said, “But one of the most enjoyable things was thinking about the endgame that we've had in our heads from the beginning. For the characters that we had in Episode 1, and then having acquired all of these other characters that we love and that have become so important to this universe along the way, making sure that their endgames all make sense, all dovetail with each other, all coexist in different and explosive ways.”

Cobra Kai season six part one is available to watch right now on Netflix.
