Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’ Trailer Explores the Blurred Lines of Reality Behind the Wrestling Mogul
Who is Vince McMahon? Is he the man everyone knows onscreen as the WWE villain “Mr. McMahon”? A self-made billionaire media mogul? Or is there something darker hiding beneath the surface?

“When it comes to Vince, a lot of that is a character,” says Paul “Triple H” Levesque, a former professional wrestler who is now the WWE’s chief content officer, in the trailer. “He is going to show you what he wants you to see.”
Or as McMahon himself says in the trailer: “The lines of reality are very blurred in our business, the individual loses all sense of who they really are.”

The six episode Mr. McMahon series “chronicles the rise and fall of Vince McMahon, controversial businessman and co-founder of WWE,” per Netflix’s logline. “From his transformation of the WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse to the explosive sexual misconduct allegations that led to his eventual resignation.”
Bill Simmons, Zara Duffy, and Chris Smith are executive producers of the series, which is from Library Films in association with Ringer Films.
Smith, who also directed Netflix’s Tiger King, served as director of the series.
McMahon, of course, is a wrestling mogul, turning his father’s regional wrestling circuit into an entertainment powerhouse. But controversy has always followed him, from concerns over steroid abuse (another topic that will be explored in the series) to the shocking allegations of sexual abuse which led to his resignation earlier this year.
The docuseries was originally developed with his support, and it includes interviews with him before the allegations that led to his exit. It includes interviews with current and former superstars like Levesque, John Cena, Hulk Hogan and Dwayne Johnson, who joined the board of directors of the WWE’s parent company the same week that the allegations were revealed.
It also includes interviews with journalists who helped uncover the allegations.
The docuseries is also set to debut just months before Netflix becomes the global home of WWE Raw, part of a major $5 billion content deal.
Mr. McMahon debuts on Netflix Sept. 25.
