Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 Enters Production in South Africa
Netflix’s live-action One Piece series is one of the best live-action adaptations of an anime or manga series ever, with the first season quickly becoming a smash hit for critics and fans alike. We heard a while back that a second season would be coming – and a fan favorite villain was teased for One Piece season 2 in a video in March – and it’s beginning to feel a lot more real now.
Netflix announced on Twitter that season 2 of One Piece was officially in production, with the cast having flown to South Africa to commence filming. The news was shared with an adorable video showing the series’ main cast reuniting on the Going Merry, the Straw Hat crew’s ship.
It’s happening, Nakama! ????? From around the world, our Straw Hats have reunited to begin filming their epic Season 2 adventure! There’s no better place to start this journey than the deck of the Going Merry with @InakiGodoy @Mackenyu1116 @emilysteaparty @itsbookofjacob and… pic.twitter.com/zgROgfAEZO

In the video, we see I?aki Godoy (Monkey D. Luffy), Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Taz Skylar (Sanji), and Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) all flying to South Africa to hang out on the iconic ship. The video has some cute touches, too, with character-specific jolly roger icons for each of the actors showing on a pirate-style treasure map, and Zoro’s jolly roger getting very lost on the way — a reference to the character’s terrible sense of direction.
In addition to the announcement of production starting, Netflix also shared a bit of a teaser on its Twitter account, showing the script for the first episode of One Piece season 2. The episode appears to be called The Beginning and the End, and the script is surrounded by character paraphernalia, like Luffy’s straw hat, Usopp’s aiming goggles, and one of Zoro’s swords. The title doesn’t give much away, but it’s certainly exciting nonetheless.
