Netflix Unveils Premiere Date, Trailer For Adam Sandler’s Comedy Special ‘Love You’ Directed By Josh Safdie

Netflix announced on Wednesday that Adam Sandler: Love You, its latest special from actor and comedian Adam Sandler, will premiere on the streamer on August 27.

While a logline for Sandler’s new hour, taped at the Nocturne Theater in Glendale, CA, wasn’t disclosed, you can view a trailer for the special above. First announced back in February, it reunites Sandler with his Uncut Gems director Josh Safdie, who with Love You made his comedy special directorial debut.

Love You comes on the heels of 100% Fresh, Sandler’s 2018 special for Netflix. Prior to that, the SNL alum had only released a number of comedy albums decades prior, including Stan and Judy’s Kid (1999), What the Hell Happened to Me? (1996) and They’re All Gonna Laugh at You! (1993). A Happy Madison production of a Central Picture, the special was produced by Sandler, Safdie, Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, Dan Bulla, Carter Hambley, Brian Robinson, Joseph Vecsey, Judit Maull, Eli Thomas and Perry Sachs. Barry Bernardi, Robert Digby and John Irwin served as executive producers.

Sandler’s Netflix specials emerged from his lucrative, longtime deal with the streamer, which he initially entered into in 2014 and most recently extended in 2020. Under the deal, he’s most recently made titles including Leo, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, Murdery Mystery 2, and Hustle. This year, he also starred in Spaceman, a sci-fi drama directed for the service by Chernobyl‘s Johan Renck.

Following his collaboration with Noah Baumbach on his 2017 Netflix pic The Meyerowitz Stories, Sandler will soon be seen starring opposite George Clooney in a new film Baumbach has directed for the service, as we were first to report. Additionally, he’s set to return for a sequel to his golf comedy Happy Madison that Netflix has greenlighted.

Recently parting ways as a director with his brother Benny Safdie, as announced earlier this year, Josh Safdie is next set to direct the Timothée Chalamet starrer Marty Supreme for A24.
