Netflix's 'The Upshaws,' starring Indy native Mike Epps, will end with Season 5

After five seasons, Netflix will say goodbye to Indianapolis native Mike Epps' "The Upshaws."

The seventh and final chapter will air after already-announced Part 6, coming early next year, Netflix announced Friday. Part 7 will include 12 episodes.

In a video shared to his Instagram last week, Epps thanked the cast and crew for their work at the end of production on Season 4. It's unclear when the video was filmed, although Epps still seemed uncertain about the show's future.

"Y'all are the greatest people in the world, and I can't wait to come back for Season 5," he said. He continued: "I'm praying for Season 5, now, I don't know for sure. But I'm telling you, this is a dream come true, we all know this is rare air and lightning in a bottle."

Epps, who also serves as one of the show's executive producers, is Bennie Upshaw, head of a Black working-class family in Indianapolis. The show also follows his wife, Regina (Kim Fields), daughters (Khali Spraggins, Journey Christine) and son (Jermelle Simon), Kelvin, the teen son he fathered with another woman (Diamond Lyons) and his sister-in-law, Lucretia (Wanda Sykes), among others.

When Part 5, which launched in April, ended, Lucretia and her fiancé decided to skip their wedding and move to Atlanta. When Bennie and Regina return home from the planned nuptials, they discover that Kelvin's mother, Tasha, moved into their basement without their knowledge. In Part 6, the family will see new jobs, new dreams, some health struggles and other surprises, Netflix teased.

In addition to his Netflix show and comedy career, Epps and his wife, Kyra, last year had an HGTV show, "Buying Back the Block," in which the couple rehabbed houses in the Indy neighborhood where Mike grew up, near 21st Street and Carollton Avenue.
