News anchor goes viral after accidentally sending sick day email request to thousands
After another week of contentious impeachment hearings on Capitol Hill, people happily pounced on a very different drama that unfolded Thursday and Friday on social media.
It began when Nick Vasos, a morning anchor a the Fox 4 news station in Kansas City, sent an email saying that he was feeling sick and needed to take the day off. While Vasos had intended to send the message to his bosses, he accidentally sent it to thousands of his co-workers at Nexstar corporation, which owns nearly 200 TV stations across the country. It swirled into one of those situations where everyone responds and, within hours, hashtags such as #PrayersforNick and #NickStrong were trending on social media.

Vasos himself confirmed that he was, in fact, expected to survive. He had a sense of humor about it all, retweeting many of his well-wishers.
Felling better basking I the glow of #NexstarNation. Thanks friends! Now get back to work. https://t.co/IfUZvbAHIz

He also retweeted a post from his manager, who said that he never actually received his employee’s email, so it’s a good thing Vasos’s request went viral.
I am one of @NickVasos’ managers. Grateful to report he and I have communicated and he is going to pull through. You guys are a scream! 😝Funny enough, WE didn’t get that email at @fox4kc. #nexstarnation #prayersfornick #justlikeferris #emailmigration

Vasos’s other co-workers, quite hilariously, made a mock memorial to him at his desk.
And to think earlier this week, he was so happy to try Casey’s pizza. I long for the simple days. #PrayersForNick 🤣 (for the record- he just called in sick. He’s ok.). pic.twitter.com/co9rjtGwHR

There were jokes that Vasos had pulled a Ferris Bueller.
I hope you get in a parade tomorrow @NickVasos 😄
Take care my friend! #PrayersforNick #NexstarNation pic.twitter.com/KfvhhN5AjR— David Mazza (@DavidNBC4) November 22, 2019
The internet, in general, was delighted, and people took that as a good sign.

I love this. Perhaps it's a sign that humanity isn't as cold and uncaring as it's seemed lately. Feel better and get back to work, @NickVasos! #PrayersForNick ??🥰😁

Thanks, @NickVasos -- in a job where we see so much hard stuff, it was nice to all have a moment to smile together. Feel better soon. #NexstarNation #prayersfornick

Although, not everyone was amused.
