Ayesha Curry Ruffled A Few Feathers On Twitter With Commentary On How Women Dress
Another day, another Twitter debate.
In many ways, 2015 was a big year for feminism, and Ayesha Curry is closing it out with a conversation about modesty. Taking to Twitter to share her thoughts on “the latest fashion trends,” wife of NBA MVP Stephen Curry got the Internet talking last night when she professed that she prefers to “keep the good stuff covered up for the one who matters.” In a mini rant, Mrs. Chef Curry made her case for choosing “classy over trendy:”
Everyone’s into barely wearing clothes these days huh? Not my style. I like to keep the good stuff covered up for the one who matters

Just looking at the latest fashion trends. I’ll take classy over trendy any day of the week. #saturdaynightinsight — Ayesha Curry (@ayeshacurry) December 6, 2015
and all I’m doing is sitting here reading a style weekly . You guys definitely entertain me that’s for sure.

And of course it got the masses in a heated debate; women have been a large topic of discussion in recent months. Amber Rose’s “Slut Walk” drove a conversation about perceived promiscuity, and how it affected her relationships with Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa. Amber also exchanged words with West and Khloe Kardashian, who both slammed her for her past as an exotic dancer. Minister Louis Farrakhan also joined in on the conversation about how women should present themselves, specifically requesting that Jay Z keep Beyonce “covered.”
“Look at Rihanna, look at Nicki Minaj and look at Beyoncé, Farrakhan said. “These are some of the most beautiful women you could find…These are the people who set styles. Today we strip the women of their clothes, how can a man think straight looking at the beauty of Beyoncé?” Curry’s commentary led to some women defending their rights to dress as they please, and other Twitter users resorting to calling the NBA wife’s naysayers “hoes:”
reading what Ayesha Curry said & thinking that’s nice..but there’s STILL a man somewhere who STILL called you a h*e at some pt #ItJustIs — Lita James (@lita_james114) December 6, 2015
Sounds as if Ayesha Curry thinks her body/other women’s bodies are like consumer goods marketed exclusively for use by men, or something.

When Curry said she is keeping the “goods” covered, I couldn’t help but think she was talking about items one finds at the market AND — Beautiful (@FeministaJones) December 6, 2015
I couldn’t help but think about how we are taught to “preserve” the body( in often ridiculous ways) for the benefit of someone ELSE

Frightening how @ayeshacurry’s comments inspired so many men to resort to being disrespectful + threatening towards women who didn’t agree. — Johnetta Elzie (@Nettaaaaaaaa) December 6, 2015

Hours after setting Twitter ablaze, Curry returned to clarify that her opinions were not meant to be used against women who disagree:
Regardless of if you like my “style of clothes” or not (which I don’t care) please do not tear women down and degrade them… Not cool peeps
— Ayesha Curry (@ayeshacurry) December 6, 2015
Pretty hot-button topic. Thoughts?
