Ryan Murphy: ‘Glee’ Will Address Death of Cory Monteith
“Glee” producers have decided to address the death of star Cory Monteith head-on with an episode involving the death of his character on the Fox musical dramedy.
Co-creator/exec producer Ryan Murphy disclosed to Deadline’s Michael Fleming Jr. his plans for how the show will regroup in the wake Monteith’s death from a drug overdose on July 13 at the age of 31.

“Glee” will bow Sept. 26, a week later than originally planned, with two previously planned episodes revolving around Beatles music. The third episode will deal with the death of Monteith’s Finn Hudson character, and then the production will take a long hiatus.
In his first public comments since Monteith’s death, Murphy discussed his friendship with the actor and efforts by his co-workers to help him overcome the drug addiction.
“It is so very sad and tragic,” Murphy told Deadline. “Cory wasn’t just an actor on one of my shows, he was very important to me, and I was very invested in his sobriety. When I heard what was happening to him, I organized an intervention and got him into rehab last March. We socialized and we also fought, because while he was a lovely sweet guy, he was also a leader on the set, a strong personality and the only analogy I can think of is that he felt like an older son to me.”
