Earlier this year, Devon found himself in hot water after he made an awkward joke during a TikTok livestream with his former "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide" co-stars Lindsey Shaw and Daniel Curtis Lee.

While chatting live with fans, Devon made a controversial comment about the abuse Drake Bell suffered at the hands of former Nickelodeon voice coach Brian Peck, which quickly raised eyebrows.

The moment, which has since been shared across other social media platforms, shows Devon joking towards Daniel, who was off-camera at the time. “Daniel, we told you never to speak about that. Get back in your hole, Daniel, and give me your holes!”

He quickly realized his mistake and tried to backtrack, saying, "Sorry, we shouldn’t joke about this. We really shouldn’t. Our set was not like that," the former Nickelodeon star added, referencing the reported toxic and inappropriate behavior that allegedly occurred on several shows overseen by producer Dan Schneider.

Despite his attempt to clarify, the damage was already done, and the awkward moment left many fans feeling uncomfortable about the whole exchange.

The joke didn’t sit well with viewers, and many took to the comments to express their disappointment and to call out Devon for making light of a serious issue. After the backlash, Devon issued an apology.

“So sorry to Drake. Gutted I hurt you,” he wrote on social media at the time along with a screenshot of a longer statement. “I was being an idiot today. No way around it. I feel horrible that my dumba** was even speaking about this without seeing it."

"I watched 'Quiet On Set' tonight and am horrified by the gravity of what Drake and others shared. Truly heartbroken about what my fellow actors went through. I can’t believe they weren’t protected. I’m sorry for compounding any hurt,” his statement read.
