Nicki Minaj Is Released Hours After Recording Her Arrest in Amsterdam for Allegedly ‘Carrying Drugs’
The rapper was on her way to Manchester, England, for the next show of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour when she filmed the incident
Nicki Minaj has been released from police custody in the Netherlands, just hours after the rapper recorded herself being arrested by Dutch officers for allegedly “carrying drugs.”
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, May 25, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee confirmed the release of the rapper.
“We have just released a 41-year-old American woman who we arrested this afternoon at Schiphol on suspicion of exporting soft drugs. After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was fined and can continue her journey," the statement read, translated from Dutch.
In an Instagram Live video that was posted on X by a Minaj fan account, police officers in Amsterdam could be heard telling Minaj that she was "under arrest" for "carrying drugs," before asking her to get in a van to go to the police station.
After denying the claims and asking for a lawyer multiple times, Minaj (born Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty) then got into a van at what appeared to be an airport.
A spokesperson for the police in the Netherlands told NBC News that they "arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs."
A representative for Minaj and the Amsterdam police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
Minaj was on her way to Manchester, England, for a show part of her Pink Friday 2 World Tour when she filmed the incident.
In a second video posted on her Instagram, Minaj spoke from behind the camera to a man in a suit, who told her that officers wanted to reach her luggage again "because you filmed [the police officer]."
"... He doesn't believe you don't have more with you than you said," the man added.

In a series of posts on X, Minaj wrote that the arrest was an attempt to "sabotage my tour."
"They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me. They got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc," she said.
She also wrote on X that her bags were taken without her consent and the plan was to allegedly delay her so she would miss her show.
Minaj said in another post that her security team told officials she had some pre-rolls of marijuana in her bag.
