Nicki Minaj Responds To Eve’s “Groundbreaking” Memoir Confession: “Accountability Is The Sexiest Trait”
Eve’s new book, Who’s That Girl?: A Memoir, contains a wide array of stories about her journey, from never-before-told recollections about the industry to vulnerable truths about her personal life. One account that swiftly gained traction was about the Philadelphia native’s experience while filming Barbershop: The Next Cut, which saw her working with Nicki Minaj.
Eve told her side of the story, confessing she was self-aware enough to know not to “project her own insecurities onto other women,” therefore making sure she didn’t do that to the Pink Friday rapper. “I had to physically and mentally prepare myself… Nicki and I were actually fine on set,” she wrote. Eve then delved into how she saw firsthand how hard Minaj worked while juggling multiple things, and eventually wound up sympathizing with her instead of envying her.
Nicki caught wind of the story and replied with a heartfelt open letter. She praised Eve for her “grace” and “emotional & spiritual maturity” while sharing her own point of view of the experience.
“I always say that I think accountability is the sexiest trait a person can have… Even tho it’s swept under the rug now, I remember that you handled it with grace but ALSO a big sprinkle of unapologetic TALENT & charisma. You soared & soared. Classic music w/the illest team, to the BIG SCREEN. And made it look easy, too. Trendsetter,” the “Moment 4 Life” spitter wrote on X.
The Queens artist continued, “Thank you for trying to not do to me what was done to you. Women feel so much pressure to compete & it’s a shame b/c we usually have so much in common & could rlly benefit from one another just as human beings. We all share so many of the same experiences as artists, wives, moms, ups & downs, anxiety, etc.”
Elsewhere in Who’s That Girl, Eve shares her experience dealing with mental health struggles, an ectopic pregnancy, the time she was drugged at a party and Janet Jackson came to her rescue, and much more.
