"It is thrilling beyond measure to finally be sharing this story with audiences," Peltz Beckham said in a statement about her directorial debut, out Feb. 9

Nicola Peltz Beckham is cementing her place in the filmmaking world.

The 29-year-old actress makes her directorial debut with Lola, an upcoming drama from Vertical Entertainment that she stars in and also wrote the screenplay for.

An official synopsis for the film, whose trailer dropped Thursday, reads, "Set in 2002 Middle America, Lola revolves around 19-year-old Lola James (Peltz Beckham) who is desperately working to save enough money to get her little brother, Arlo (Luke David Blumm), out of their toxic home dominated by their mother, Mona (Virginia Madsen)."

"All Lola wants is for Arlo to have a chance at the life she never had, nor will," the synopsis continues. "One tragic night, her whole world gets uprooted, and from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same."

The nearly 3-minute trailer opens with Lola saying in a voiceover during a montage of scenes, "I'm the person I am today because of the people that help me and the people that hurt me."

Subsequent scenes show Mona hurling slurs at Arlo, with Lola doing her best to protect her younger sibling and stand up against their mom while navigating the hurdles in her own young-adult life outside of their home.

"I love you so much. I'm gonna get you out of here. I promise," Lola tells Arlo.

After finding out she is going to be a mother herself a bit later in the trailer, Lola angrily tells Mona, "I'm gonna spend my entire life making sure my baby knows what it feels like to be loved."

"I said the same thing when I was pregnant with you," Mona replies haughtily.

In an official trailer release, Peltz Beckham reflected on "the almost six years since we began this journey with Lola," which is produced by Will McCance and executive produced by Ryan Kirby and Robert Benun.

"It is thrilling beyond measure to finally be sharing this story with audiences," the Bates Motel alum continued. "Despite a life of hardship, abuse and generational trauma, Lola is a fighter — driven by unconditional love and a refusal to submit to the unsatisfactory future that has been forced upon her."

"It's a heartfelt story that we hope everyone can relate to and hopefully feel inspired by in some way," Peltz Beckham concluded.

Aside from Peltz Beckham, Blumm and Madsen, 62, Lola also stars Trevor Long, Raven Goodwin, Sunil Narkar, Stephen Graybill, Richie Merritt, Taprena Michelle Augustine, Kevin Toms, VJ Foster, Stephanie Erb, Phil Ursino, Akai Allan, Hilda Boulware, Will Peltz, Lena Georgas and Diana Tankaka.

Lola is scheduled for release on Feb. 9.
