Nicole Kidman to receive International Star Award at Palm Springs Film Festival

On Friday, the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced that Nicole Kidman will receive the International Star Award at their upcoming awards show. The special honor comes for her performance in A24’s “Babygirl,” in which she plays a powerful CEO who has an affair with a young intern (Harris Dickinson). The Australian actress is also receiving Oscar buzz for the role.

The Palm Springs International Film Awards will take place at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Jan. 3, 2025, with the film festival itself running between Jan. 2 and Jan. 13.

Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said, “Nicole Kidman once again showcases her unmatched talent for embracing bold and unexpected roles with remarkable ease. Other artists to receive honors at this year’s Palm Springs fest will include: Adrien Brody (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor); “Conclave” (Ensemble Performance Award) presented to actors Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Lucian Msamati; Colman Domingo (Spotlight Award, Actor); Mikey Madison (Breakthrough Performance Award); and “Emilia Pérez” (Vanguard Award) presented to director Jacques Audiard and actors Karla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Salda?a, Selena Gomez, and Edgar Ramírez.

Kidman previously received the Palm Springs International Star Award for “Lion” (2016), for which she also earned an Academy Award nomination. (She of course won the Best Actress Oscar for 2002’s “The Hours.”) Past recipients of the International Star Award, Actress include Carey Mulligan, Michelle Yeoh, Penélope Cruz, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan, and Charlize Theron. Yeoh went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” while Mulligan, Cruz, and Ronan were all nominated at the Oscars in their respective years.
