Night Has Come, the highly chilling thriller K-drama series, has come to an end as the finale episode 12 arrived on Thursday, December 21, 2023, on U+ Mobile TV and Viki. Lim Dae-Woong has directed this series that follows the engrossing story of a group of high school classmates trapped in a dangerous real-life “mafia” game. Lee Jae-In and Kim Woo-Seok play the main leads, Lee Yoon-Seo and Kim Joon-Hee, respectively, in this K-drama.

Throughout the previous episodes of Night Has Come, all the students have undergone life-threatening situations and seen several gruesome deaths of their classmates. However, the ending of Night Has Come will take viewers on an extremely shocking ride as the entire game turns out to be a never-ending mind game. Thus, all the students are still alive in real life.

Night Has Come Ending: Are the students able to end the game?

The finale episode of Night Has Come has a series of astounding incidents that will leave the audience in a state of utter shock. The episode begins by showcasing that Oh Jung-Won, who is a mafia, has kept both Joon-Hee and Yoon-Seo alive. She has lied to Jin Da-Bum about killing them. However, soon, he finds out about the lie and tries to kill Jung-Won but fails, as according to the rules of the game, a mafia can not kill another mafia.

To save Yoon-Seo and Joon-Hee from Da-Bum, Jung-Won tries to kill him by freezing him to death inside the freezer room where all the dead bodies of the students are kept. When the morning arrives, Yoon-Seo and Joon-Hee wake up. Now, they know that both Da-Bum and Jung-Won are mafias. They try to think about what should be their next step to finish the game and make it out alive.

Meanwhile, when Jung-Won goes to check on Da-Bum, she finds out that he has somehow escaped the freezing room. Later on, both Jung-Won and Joon-Hee receive a message from Da-Bum. It says that if they want to save Yoon-Seo’s life, they must come to the rooftop of the building. Thus, the two of them rush there to save Yoon-Seo.

When they arrive at the rooftop, they see that the place is covered in bushes. They also see Da-Bum holding Yoon-Seo with a knife to her throat. He then goes on to instruct Jung-Won to jump off the building and kill herself. She has to do it if she wants to save her best friend. However, Jung-Won manipulates him by making him believe that mafias can not kill themselves.

Soon, a fight breaks out between Da-Bum and the three remaining students. The fight ends with Da-Bum getting stabbed to death and Yoon-Seo getting fatally stabbed. To save Yoon-Seo’s life, Jung-Won sacrifices herself by jumping off the building and dying. The game finally ends.

Finale reveals that the “mafia” game is not real

Right after the game ends, in a shocking turn of events, Yoon-Seo wakes up from sleep in a completely different place. The Night Has Come finale episode then goes on to disclose that the “mafia” is not real but a mind game. The parents of Park Se-Eun, the girl who ended her life after extreme bullying, have created the game to punish Park Se-Eun’s classmates. They have done it to make them feel the pain of death.

Park Se-Eun’s mother has woken up Yoon-Seo as she has escaped death for the first time in the game with the help of Jung-Won. The episode also reveals that Jung-Won is a fictional character based on Park Se-Eun, who used to be Yoon-Seo’s actual best friend. Park Se-Eun’s parents also go on to reveal that the students, who are currently under a sleeping spell, have played the game multiple times before. They have kept them under their control to avenge their daughter’s death.

At the end of Night Has Come, Yoon-Seo pleads to them to release the students in exchange for her. She is willing to sacrifice herself for her classmates. Park Se-Eun’s father tries to convince his wife to let go of the students after listening to Yoon-Seo. However, Se-Eun’s mother is still not satisfied and slips Yoon-Seo into a deep sleep once again.

The K-drama series ends with Yoon-Seo waking up from her sleep on the school bus from episode 1. However, this time she knows what is actually going on. Thus, the ending denotes that the “mafia” game has not ended yet.
