Nikki Glaser flashback: Before she was Golden Globes host, she was Snowstorm on ‘The Masked Singer’ [WATCH]
Nikki Glaser is perhaps best known for being a comedian and an actress — and now a Golden Globes host — but did you know she’s also an accomplished singer? “It was the first dream I ever had in wanting to be a performer,” she revealed in 2022 after being voted out of “The Masked Singer” while wearing a Snowstorm costume (watch above). Glaser’s musical chops brought her all the way to the Semi-Finals during Season 8 of Fox’s wild and wacky reality TV, but alas, she was bested by Amber Riley as Harp and Wilson Phillips as Lambs.
As the hilarious Roast legend explained at the time, her dream of singing “was squashed at such a young age and it just became something that was not attainable to me.” She added, “When this opportunity came up, it was so perfect. I think what held me back was the fact that I knew I was a comedian, and everyone’s just like, ‘Don’t sing, no one wants to hear that. It’s like Michael Jordan playing baseball. No one needs that from you. Go do what you’re good at.’ This show really allowed me to forget all of the insecurities I had around singing and really explore my voice. And it’s something I’m so excited to keep doing after this.”

Some of the songs that Glaser performed on “The Masked Singer” that year included “Thank U, Next” by Ariana Grande, “Sweet but Psycho” by Ava Max and “Thinking of You” by Katy Perry. But will she sing on the stage at the 82nd Golden Globes when it airs on Sunday, January 5, 2025 on CBS? Stay tuned.

“Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes,” said Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation (parent company of Gold Derby). “Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event. We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes where Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe.”
Glaser now follows in the footsteps of these other recent Golden Globes hosts: Jo Koy, Jerrod Carmichael, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, Ricky Gervais, Andy Samberg & Sandra Oh, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon. Some of the emcees received rather negative reviews from fans and critics (such as Koy and Carmichael), while others were almost universally beloved (including Fey & Poehler and Gervais).
Glaser received an Emmy nomination this year for her pre-recorded variety special “Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die.” She recently chatted with Gold Derby’s Matt Noble about the project, and she opened up by explaining, “I am plagued with shame, depression and feeling different. Comedy is a way for me to say those dark things and when I get that relational laugh, well maybe I’m not so weird.”
