Nikolaj Coster-Waldau on why Jaime Lannister won't be in Sunday's 'Game of Thrones'
New dad Jaime Lannister has his hands full dealing with sister/lover Cersei — so full that he won’t be in the next new episode of Game of Thrones.
As actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau revealed in a “Build Series NYC” interview Wednesday, Jaime is taking a break this week.
“He’s decorating the nursery,” Coster-Waldau joked of Jaime’s whereabouts. “He’s chosen green because he’s like, ‘I don’t want to jump to conclusions.’”
(Side note: Do you think Lannisters just use red for both baby girls and boys?)
Working on his baby’s nursery should be a soothing endeavor after the harrowing experience of fighting the Dothraki, almost getting burnt to a crisp by Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon, and then nearly drowning. Coster-Waldau described the difficulties of shooting that latter scene, even though safety divers were all around him.
“It triggered all my claustrophobia. I was like, ‘Are you sure we have to do this?’” he said.
Luckily, Jaime had Bronn there looking out for him.
“What you didn’t know… Bronn, for years, was working on the beaches outside of King’s Landing. He was a lifeguard. He won the Westeros 1,000-meter,” Coster-Waldau insisted.
Aside from Jaime and Bronn’s bromance, Coster-Waldau wouldn’t mind if a new friendship bloomed. After learning that Kit Harington has said he’d like to work with him, the actor seconded the idea: “Wouldn’t it be nice if they were on the same side fighting? They could fight a common enemy!”
The actor also gave his thoughts on how Game of Thrones should end: “I do hope that [Jaime] survives. That Cersei’s rule will end. I don’t think she’s that good of a queen. I’m not sure anyone would be good. Probably Jon Snow would be good as the king, and then they would be buddies. Me and Jon.”
