NLE Choppa has been on a roll musically over the last year, but he recently encountered a major roadblock. The 20-year-old was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit for his 2020 record “Who Tf Up In My Trap.”

Music Business Worldwide reported that Rodney Oliver, artistically known as Rodney O, is suing the Memphis rapper for taking parts of his 1988 song “Everlasting Bass” without crediting or paying him. O, alongside Joe Cooley, was part of the duo responsible for making that song. Project Pat, Juicy J, DJ Paul and Sony Music have also been named as defendants in the lawsuit.

“Due to Defendant’s acts of copyright infringement as alleged herein, Defendant’s, and each of them, have obtained direct and indirect profits they would not otherwise have realized but for their infringement of Plaintiff’s rights,” the complaint, filed last Wednesday (Oct. 3), read. “As such, Plaintiff is entitled to disgorgement of Defendant’s profits directly and indirectly attributable to Defendant’s infringement of Plaintiff’s rights in his copyrighted composition in an amount to be established at trial.”

Though Rodney Oliver has not explicitly stated a dollar amount he is seeking, he is adamant about them having a trial by jury. As of now, neither NLE Choppa nor his team have addressed the complaint.

The “Sl*t Me Out” rapper recently faced backlash for another one of his songs, though not legally. He sampled Nelly’s “Hot In Herre” on his July record “It’s Getting Hot,” and many people felt he did the original record an injustice.

“I’m not gonna lie, at first it started out like a lot of people were hating on it, but it’s almost Gold now,” he told VIBE at the recent VMAs. “It’s climbing up the charts. It’s been streaming tremendously. Nelly messed with it and at the end of the day, God did his thing. Nobody else, but him. All praise to the most high.”
