No one is more excited about the Spice Girls reunion than James Corden
“Today is a monumental day,” James Corden declared during Friday’s press conference for Peter Rabbit, where he was joined by co-stars Margot Robbie, Domhnall Gleeson, Rose Byrne, and Elizabeth Debicki, as well as director Will Gluck for a live-streamed Q&A on Yahoo Entertainment’s Facebook page hosted by Kevin Polowy (watch above).
“Not because we’re all here. But because it was announced today that the Spice Girls are re-forming … all five.”
The late night host/actor/carpool karaoke artist extraordinaire, who voices the titular rabbit in the upcoming family film, may have been jumping the gun a bit. Yes, all five Spice Girls did reunite — for a photo, at least — but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re re-forming.
And wait a second, what does this have to do with Peter Rabbit, anyway? Corden was joining his castmates in answering a fan question about what they would each name a bunny if they had one.
“So I would not get one rabbit. I’d get five rabbits. And I would name them Scary, Baby, Sporty, Posh, and Ginger.”
(In case it’s not already obvious, James Corden is a huge Spice Girls fan.)
As for his co-stars? (And their fantasy rabbit names, not Spice Girl fandom levels.) Byrne said she did have a rabbit once, named “Bunsk.” The Irish-born Gleeson stayed true to his homeland and picked the name “Seamus.” Debicki stayed classic and went with “Snowflake.” And while Robbie never entertained getting a real live rabbit, she admitted that since she was a child she’s had a stuffed-animal version named … “Bunny.”
Now if only the Spice Girls could add a sixth member named Bunny Spice, we’d have some perfect harmony here.
(You can watch the full interview, which starts around 24:45, above; see Corden lose it over the Spice Girls around minute 44.)
Peter Rabbit opens Feb. 9.
