Role Recall: Nick Nolte
Oscar-nominated actor Nick Nolte talks to Yahoo Entertainment about some of his most memorable movie roles. Nolte, who’s been open about his battle with addiction, remembers a drug-fueled trip to N.Y. where he was supposed to meet his future “48 Hrs.” co-star, Eddie Murphy, but instead ended up in a friend’s apartment. “In those days, there was a white powdery substance running around that was abused badly and I sat in that apartment for three days,” he said. Nolte reveals that while preparing for his role in the 1986 movie “Down and Out in Beverly Hills” he lived on the streets as a homeless man for six days and got poison oak all over his body. The actor says his co-star at the time, Bette Midler, “freaked out.” Nolte recalls Midler saying, “Is it contagious?” He goes on to say: “She didn’t want to touch me. She didn’t want anything to do with me.” Watch the video above for more of Nolte’s candid interview.
