The NRA and Scientology are a lot alike, according to Samantha Bee

Full Frontal With Samantha Bee took a shot at the National Rifle Association and a swipe at Scientology. Bee spent a fair amount of time comparing the two organizations, which she referred to as “cults.”

Bee opened by saying, “Both of these cults are based on fanciful myths that, when repeated enough, their otherwise intelligent followers start to believe. One says that 75 million years ago an intergalactic warlord nuked billions of people in volcanoes, and then there’s the really crazy myth that guns have nothing to do with gun violence.”

Bee also discussed how both organizations believe that only they have the ability to help. For example, NRA’s executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, has famously said, “The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun.”

“They’ll make you a superhero,” Bee said of both groups. “Whether that’s healing the sick with your mind or making a kill shot on a mass murderer despite being unable to hit the toilet bowl when taking a leak.”

Bee didn’t stop there. She also recorded a video message in hopes of converting NRA members into Scientologists. In it she said, “Who needs a rifle to defend themselves when, as an OT VII, you could blow someone away with your brain. That’s the stopping power of Scientology.”

While Bee believes NRA members are better off as Scientologists, she did admit that Scientology has a few drawbacks. She said, “Is Scientology safe? Of course not. It’s bonkers, but it’s safer for the rest of us. But if it keeps you from feeling like you need to load up on AR-15s, then hail Xeno or whatever the f***.”

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. on TBS.
