Oasis Live 25: Band reuniting but do they dare play Stone Pony in Asbury Park again?

Britpop rockers Oasis have announced a reunion after 15 years apart — but are they ready to return to the Stone Pony in Asbury Park?

The band's show in March of 1995 at the Pony is noted as one of the most infamous in city music history.

“Somebody threw a plastic beer bottle and it hit (lead singer Liam Gallagher) on the head during the first song,” said Peter Mantas, now the entertainment director for the Break and Low Dive venues across the street from the Pony. “The roadie got on the mic and said if anything else is thrown the show's over.”

The concert was the first of the band's 1995 U.S. tour after the release of the breakthrough  album “Definitely Maybe.” A reporter from Rolling Stone was at the show.

“Tonight, in front of a capacity audience at New Jersey's legendary Stone Pony, in Asbury Park, they aren't exactly getting star treatment,” states the article. “Before the band starts playing, a sodden cry rises up from the back of the sold-out room: “(Blank) Great Britain! England sucks! USA!” Then after just a single song, Oasis are rudely interrupted by a beer can.”

Oasis soldiered on at the Pony and were soon playing arenas and amphitheaters as they became one of the biggest bands of the '90s.

The band, fronted by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, have announced a series of reunion concerts in the United Kingdom next year with no U.S. dates currently planned.

“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised,” the band said in a statement on its socials and website.

There has been no announcement about which, if any, other band members are participating in the reunion. Oasis disbanded in 2009 when Noel Gallagher left the group.
