‘Obliterated’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season
Obliterated has lived up to its name. Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of the hourlong action-comedy series.
The cancellation comes as a little bit of a surprise as Obliterated spent a respectable six weeks in the Netflix Top 10 for English-language series following its November 30 release, peaking at No.1 in Week 2. The streamer largely bases its renewal decisions on analyzing viewing vs. cost.

From Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, Obliterated told the story of an elite Special Forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs and sex, the team discovered that a bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now-intoxicated team had to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb and save the world.
Nick Zano, Shelley Hennig, Terrence Terrell, Alyson Gorske, C. Thomas Howell, Eugene Kim, Paola Lázaro and Amalia Yoo starred in the series, produced by Sony Pictures Television. Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald executive produced, along with Dina Hillier.
Obliterated was an original concept from Counterbalance Entertainment’s Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg, who are behind such hard-R comedies as the Harold & Kumar franchise, Hot Tub Time Machine, American Reunion and Blockers and have said that the series was meant to resemble an R-rated action-comedy feature film told over eight episodes, with a beginning, middle and end.
Envisioning Obliterated as a movie franchise in the vein of Die Hard or The Hangover, the trio are hoping to revisit the concept in some form in the future, picking up with the characters years later.
Meanwhile, Netflix remains in business with Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald, who are working on the upcoming sixth and final season of the hit martial arts comedy Cobra Kai and have teased potential spinoffs.
