'The O.C.' actress Mischa Barton is moving to 'The Hills' — really!

Expect the rebooted version of The Hills to look a lot more like The O.C. when it returns, thanks to Mischa Barton.

Barton starred in the popular Fox drama, which served as the unofficial model for the unscripted forerunner of The Hills, called, aptly enough, Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County — from 2003 to 2006. Now she’s joining the cast of the MTV reality show, the network announced Wednesday.

She confirmed the news shortly after:

Look for Barton to mix and mingle with original Hills cast members, including Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Whitney Port, Brody Jenner, Audrina Patridge, Jason Wahler, Frankie Delgado, Stephanie Pratt, and Justin “Bobby” Brescia when it premieres in 2019.

Alas, original Hills star Lauren Conrad won’t be part of the cast for The Hills: New Beginnings. Neither will Kristin Cavallari, who replaced Conrad on the show’s fifth season.

The spouses of Jenner (Kaitlynn Carter), Delgado (Jennifer Delgado), and Wahler (Ashley Wahler) are also joining the show, but it’s Barton who’s the most familiar. In addition to her central role on one of the most iconic teen shows of its time, Barton struggled personally after leaving it in 2006. She was arrested for a DUI in 2007 and, in 2009, was placed in a psychiatric ward on a 5150 involuntary hold after threatening to kill herself.

“It was a full-on breakdown,” Barton told People in October 2013. “I was under enormous pressure.”

In the years since, the theater-trained actress has continued to make movies and took a shot at another reality show, Dancing With the Stars, in 2016. It didn’t go so well, but she’s up for more.

Barton’s casting came as a surprise to at least one of her new fellow cast members.

Although news that a new version of The Hills is coming soon was revealed only in August, cast member Stephanie Pratt shared Tuesday that she was on her way to film.

Let the drama begin.
