With NBC’s follow-up to the U.S. adaptation of The Office still in development, global fans of the franchise can sate themselves in the meantime with an Aussie attempt at the mockumentary-style comedy.
Just one (big) catch, though: The Office Australia will be available on Prime Video in 240 countries and territories worldwide from Oct. 18, except, that is, in the U.S. That’s nothing a VPN can’t fix, however, if you’re really keen.
In the clip released Wednesday, we see Hannah Howard (Felicity Ward), the managing director of Sydney-based packaging company Flinley Craddick, trying and failing to win over her employees with her natural charisma, ‘girlboss’ vibes, and visionary leadership.
Also trapped at Flinley Craddick with Hannah are receptionist, front desk executive and productivity manager Lizze (Edith Poor playing the Dwight/Gareth role); sales rep Nick (Steen Raskopoulos playing the Tim/Jim role) and Greta (Shari Sebbens in the Pam/Dawn role).
The cast also includes Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmidt, Zoe Terakes, Pallavi Sharda, Claude Jabbour and Jason Perini. Guest stars for the eight-episode season include Susie Youssef, Justin Rosniiak, Carlo Ritchie, Rick Donald, and Chris Bunton.
The Office was developed for Australia by writers Julie De Fina (Aftertaste) and Jackie van Beek (The Breaker Upperers, Nude Tuesday) with the pair also serving as executive producers. Kylie Washington (Return to Paradise) is executive producer with lead producer Sophia Zachariou (Ladies in Black, The Moth Effect) and producer Linda Micsko (The Letdown, Laid).
The Office is co-produced by BBC Studios Australia & New Zealand, Bunya Entertainment, and Amazon MGM Studios, and is based on the original BBC Studios format.
Outside the well-known U.S. The Office, there have been several international adaptations of the show since the original British version aired its final episode in December 2003. The countries to have adapted the show include Canada (La Job), Chile (La Ofis), France (Le Bureau), Czechia (Kancl), Germany (Stromberg), India (The Office), Israel (HaMisrad), Poland (The Office), Saudi Arabia (Al Maktab) and Sweden (Kontoret).
