Oh, just kidding: 'Gangnam Style' did not break YouTube's player
YouTube was all like “just playin'” when everyone reported that Psy’s “Gangnam Style” broke their video player.
YouTube’s Google+ posted the following on Monday, leading people to believe that the song forced YouTube’s player upgrade: “We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. “Gangnam Style” has been viewed so many times we had to upgrade to a 64-bit integer (9,223,372,036,854,775,808)!”
According to Variety, the post was simply a joke, with a YouTube rep telling them “It’s an Easter egg,” as they upgraded the player to a 64-bit integer months earlier.
If anything, the post only added to the video’s mountains of views, currently standing at 2.158 billion.
