Olivia And Fitz Are Going To The DNC
Gladiators unite!
There’s a mini-Scandal reunion taking place in Chicago and this time, Liv and Fitz along with a few other familiars are hosting the Democratic National Convention.
The DNC is scheduled to run from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22. In Chicago. After winning a little over 1,976 delegate votes putting her on the first ballot, per an AP tally all eyes are on Kamala Harris to take the nomination.
The unofficial Scandal reunion will take place live on stage with Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn who played Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant in the Shondaland ABC drama. Both celebs have been tapped to host the convention along with actress/producer Mindy Kaling, and The View host Ana Navarro.
While Washington and Goldwyn are set to join each other on stage, CNN reports “each star will host one night of the four-day convention, in a role similar to an award show host, kicking off the broadcast with opening remarks and then reappearing onstage throughout the evening to help guide the audience through programming.”
Goldwyn will host Monday, Navarro on Tuesday, Kaling on Wednesday, and Washington will host on Thursday—closing the night with Kamala Harris formally accepting the Democratic nomination and making her big speech.
Washington hosted the third night of the 2020 DNC.
Navarro, a republican (on paper) voted for Hillary Clinton when Donald Trump was on the presidential ticket and has since lent her support to Harris.
Scandal was part of ABC’s Thursday primetime lineup proceeding the network’s long-running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and later preceding How to Get Away with Murder, which featured a cross-over episode arc.
Kerry Washington, like Diahann Carroll was nominated for the best actress Emmy Award in a drama series for her role in Scandal, but did not win.
In its final season, Scandal brought in between 5.2 and 7.6 million viewers on average within their key demographic according to stats from TV Series Finale.
President Joe Biden is set to open the DNC with an appearance and speeches from the Obamas.
